Nyagaka Ongeri, Founder and CEO
Nyagaka Ongeri is the Founder and CEO of Ubora Advisors. Nyagaka was previously Head of Global Corporates in the Americas for Barclays PLC. In this role he had responsibility for building the corporate banking business with top US clients with operations in EMEA and India.
From 2009 to 2011, Nyagaka was Head of Global Finance and Risk Solutions for Barclays Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa. He managed the bank’s financing products across 13 African countries. Preceding this, he was head of the Financial Institutions Debt Capital Markets Group at Barclays New York for several years. He joined Barclays in 2001 from JP Morgan, South Africa.
While in South Africa, he co-founded the Student Sponsorship Program of South Africa (SSP), a leadership organization that has provided scholarships and mentors to several thousand high school students in South Africa.
Nyagaka is on the board of AMREF a 50-year old organization dedicated to empowering the people of Africa through better health outcomes. He is also a Board Member and head of the Finance Board Committee for Educational Development Center (EDC), a global non-profit that provides lasting solutions to improving education , promoting health outcomes and expanding economic opportunity in S. America, the U.S., Africa and SE Asia.
He is a graduate of Howard University where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honors). Nyagaka is also a graduate of Harvard Business School and is a CFA charter holder. He is an avid mountaineer and runner having scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro and Elbrus and completed seven marathons.
Daisy Etemesi, Vice President
Daisy Etemesi is an Associate at Ubora Advisors where she is currently involved in client management, research and financial modelling.
Previously, she worked at Standard Chartered Bank in Corporate Banking where she was responsible for Public Sector and Development Organization clients. She was involved in origination, risk analysis, portfolio management and interacted with a wide spectrum of banking products such as structuring loans and bonds, bespoke trade offerings and hedging products to mention a few.
Daisy also worked under the Leverage and Structured Solutions team of the bank in South Africa where she was involved in debt restructuring , acquisition financing, bridge loans and structured capex financing.
Daisy worked at Metropol Credit Reference Bureau as a credit analyst and a business analyst where she analysed credit information from various credit institutions such as banks, microfinance institutions and SACCOs. She created customized credit scorecards for financial institutions on requests and improved the existing credit scoring algorithm.
Daisy is a graduate of the University of Leeds where she was awarded an MSc Economics and Finance. She received a Bachelor in Business Science in Financial Economics from Strathmore University and is a CFA level 2 candidate.
Navraj Suri is an Associate at Ubora Advisors. He is a financial service professional who is currently involved in providing advisory and investment services to clients through evaluating project's financial feasibility, constructing financial models and developing formal documentation including investment memoranda, investment prospectuses, investment presentation and teaser, and investment policy statements.
Previously, Navraj worked at UBS Investment Bank within the European Real Estate space which oversaw the strategy and transaction. He was responsible for preparing investment cases including detailed financial modelling across core and value-add funds.
Thereafter at IAM, a London based Private Equity firm, he was responsible for sourcing and underwriting new investment opportunities as well as active management of the whole capital stack. He was also involved in the refinancing of a number of assets working closely with several lenders and equity partners.
Navraj then joined Nairobi based family office researching and analyzing potential investment opportunities across the East African market.
Navraj is a graduate of Imperial College London where he holds and MEng in Civil Engineering.
Navraj Suri, Associate
Damaris Ochieng is an Analyst at Ubora Advisors where she is currently involved in client management, research and financial modelling.
Damaris is a Certified Commercial Banking & Credit Analyst with 7 years’ experience in Banking. She has proficient knowledge in assessing the credit worthiness of personal, commercial and corporate clients, strong analytical skills, sound knowledge of credit systems, financial analysis, debt management, reporting and all related credit-based system operations.
Previously she worked for Ecobank Kenya Limited in Corporate Banking as a Credit Analyst where she was responsible for analyzing credit and financial reports to determine risks involved in extending credits to corporate clients(Financial Institutions, Public Sector, Regional and Global Corporates), scrutinizing financial data such as market share, income growth and management quality to decide if loans will be lucrative. In Ecobank she has also worked as a Commercial Credit Analyst and Credit Card Analyst.
She holds a Masters of Science Degree in Finance and Investments from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from JKUAT. She is a CFA Level 1 Candidate.
Damaris Ochieng, Analyst
Kellie Charlotte is an Analyst at Ubora Advisors where she is is involved in client management, research and financial modelling. Previously, she worked as a Senior Investment Banking Analyst with Maitri Capital, an investment banking and financial advisory firm based in Nairobi, Kenya.
At Maitri, Kellie was responsible for providing analytical and resource management advice to small, medium-sized, and large enterprises. She managed and spearheaded projects that involved strategy development, business plan writing, business advisory, financial analysis and modeling, company valuation, capital raising and, Mergers and Acquisitions transactions.
Kellie holds vast experience and knowledge in various industries having worked with clients in sectors ranging from Agriculture, FMCG, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Renewable Energy to Logistics and Transportation.
Kellie received her Bachelor of Business Science degree in Actuarial Science from Strathmore University. She is currently actively pursuing her qualification as an Actuary and is a member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK.
